Where did your derby name come from?

It's a reference to a King of the Hill episode. It was the first name that popped in my head and for a while I didn't want it to be my derby name, but who am I kidding? It's stupid and makes me laugh, especially when my teammates say it in their best Hank Hill voice.

I grew up in Williamsburg, Virginia and Vero Beach, Florida. I currently live in Belfast.

 

How long have you been skating?

One year.

 

Why do you play?

I had wanted to try derby for probably 10 years before I finally went to my first practice. There was something (a lot of things, actually) missing from my life, and after a few practices it was clear to me that derby was what I needed. The friendships I've made through derby, the progress I've made as a skater, the challenges I've overcome, and the confidence that derby has given me that I never thought I'd have-- it's all 100% worth it.

 

What's a great song to skate to?

Special Delivery by The Offspring. Or, ya know, anything by ABBA.

 

 

What's your favorite derby memory?

I struggled with crossovers for what seemed like forever, but it was only a few months. I felt horrible after almost every practice and like I was a burden on my trainers because I wasn't picking up that skill quickly enough. I stayed home one day, I was probably on my skates for 8 hours, practiced all day in the limited space I have and I finally got it. Going to practice the next day and finally being able to do crossovers, and how happy everyone was for me since they knew how much it had been bringing me down--- it just felt great.
